Javea Fiestas
There are several bank holidays throughout the year, either national, provincial or local. National holidays include Christmas and Easter. Bank holidays (Fiestas) are not necessarily on Mondays as in Britain and can be any day of the week as they depend on the date.
In JANUARY the 1st is a holiday in celebration of the New Year. On the evening of the 5th there is the Parade of the Three Kings. The 6th of January is a bank holiday in celebration of the arrival of the Three Kings. Traditionally in Spain it is the three kings who distribute presents to the children and not Father Christmas. Also the fiesta for San Antonio Abad where animals are blessed which runs from the 12th to the 28th.
In FEBRUARY there is the celebration of carnival in Javea, usually around the 17th.
In MARCH is fathers day celebrated on the 19th.
In APRIL Easter.
In MAY the 1st is a holiday for Mayday. The 3rd is a local holiday for Jesus Nazareno.
In JUNE there are the Hogueras de San Juan, between the 9th and 24th which is when Javea makes effigies, usually of political or show business figures which are then burnt on the night of the 24th along with a firework display. There are also bull running, parades and concerts in Javea. Also in June is the International Festival which is a festival celebrating all the nationalities in Javea, with food stalls and nightly entertainment, running for three days in the middle of the month.
In JULY Javea has its Moors and Christians celebrations which are over the third weekend of the month, with a beach battle and parades through the port.
In AUGUST the 15th is a bank holiday in Javea as European workers day.
In SEPTEMBER Javea celebrates the Virgen de Loreto fiesta from the 25th of August until the 8th of September with parades, concerts and a spectacular firework display on the night of the 8th.
In OCTOBER there are two bank holidays in Javea, the 9th is the Dia de la Comunidad Valenciana, a provincial bank holiday to celebrate the Autonomous region of Valencia: and the 12th which is Dia de España (Spain Day).
In NOVEMBER the 1st is a bank holiday in Javea as All Saints Day where people traditionally visit their departed relatives in the local cemetery.
In DECEMBER there are the following fiestas in Javea: the 6th is the Dia de la Constitución (Constitution Day); the 8th is Imaculada Concepción (Immaculate Conception) and the 25th as Christmas Day.
