Javea old town is steeped in history and well worth exploring with the fortified Gothic church (San Bartolome) and a very good museum (Museo Etnografico 'Soler Blasco'). You will get some great tapas at incredible prices in the bars in the old town. Some good advice is to follow the Spanish, they know where the good food at bargain prices are to be found.
Dominating the fishing port is the modern silhouette of the church of Nestra Senora de Loreto; with a roof imitating a ship´s hull. Pavement cafés and bars overlooking the Mediterranean invite you to sit and have a drink and just enjoy the ambience of the Port.
The Arenal is very good for families. The beach itself is fabulous with superb fine, golden sand, the water is very shallow and calm as it is in a sheltered bay. There are volleyball nets along the back of the beach and plenty of play areas for the children. You can easily sit in a cafe or bar and be able to see your children. Generally Spain is very family-orientated and you can feel much more relaxed about your kids safety than you would anywhere else. It's a great place to walk along the promenade in the evening and in the summer there are various stalls selling a variety of handmade crafts.
